Phases of the Moon

I read in history about Pheidippides. He ran 25 miles to Athens. When he got there he told everyone the news, then died. They put a cresent moon on their coins to remember him by. The reason for a cresent was because when he got to Athens, the moon was a cresent moon! Here are some moon phases:

1. Cresent moon:
A cresent moon is between a new moon and a half moon.
2. New moon:
A new moon is a phase when the moon is not visible from the Earth.
3. Full moon:
The full moon has many different names depending on when it appears.
4. Half moon:
A half moon looks like half a circle, it is also called a quarter moon.

That's so funny that you posted this today. Jerah just yesterday asked me what a marathon was, and I reminded her of this story.

Do you ever look at the moon and say, "Look, Mom, it's waning!" (Jerah likes to say this, and Joely thinks she's saying, "Look Mom, it's raining!"
