Story 5: The great ballerina-Chapter 3:Happy birthday, Diana

Diana was very happy. It was her sixth birthday. The bell rang. She put on her clothes and ate her cereal quickly. She knew she would be late, anyway. Just the later you are, the more trouble you get into. She locked her bedroom door, slipped the key in her pocket and before she knew it she was running down the stairs. She knew trouble was waiting for her in class. She scurried quickly to her class room like a mouse. When she got to the door, she whispered to herself, "Why is it so quiet in there? Is Miss Lulluna just waiting for me so she can suprise me with detention?" She quietly opened the door, waiting for Lulluna to shout at her. She was very suprised by the look on Lulluna's face."Diana. You're late. Extra hour of practice for you." "Oh, great. More work,"Diana mumbled. She expected more, but she was still angry with what she got. She had no idea what Miss Lulluna had in store for her and the class. "Jessie, Ann, Mary, Beth. Come up here and get Diana her presents. Pass the card around so everyone can sign it,"Miss Lulluna said, handing a present to each one of the girls."Happy birthday, Diana!"Beth said, through a gap-toothed grin. Diana knew Beth's tooth came out a week ago when she was practicing. Ann gave her a present and a half. The other half fell off. Diana thought it wasn't tightly wrapped. Jessie picked up the other half and gave it to Diana. "Happy birthday, Diana. I wrapped this one myself. I didn't do to good, you see. It fell in half. Sorry! Everyone's signing the card for you right now. I was the first one to sign it. You're six now, right? I turned six a few weeks ago. I'm just a bit older than you. I hope you like your presents!"she said as she skipped off merrily. Diana liked Jessie. She was very nice. In fact, they were sort of friends. They just didn't talk very often and they didn't properly intrduce themselves to each other. They were still friends, though. Diana would have to find a time when she could talk to Jessie. She slumped in her seat, often taking a small glance at Jessie. Diana asked if she could go to the bathroom. Anyway, the school rules say you have to take a buddy with you if you don't know how to get to the bathroom. Diana knew the bathrooms were all the way on the other side of school, but she didn't know how to get there. It was a good excuse to have a nice chat with Jessie. Jessie leaped up and grabbed Diana's hand. She knew what Diana was thinking. When they got out of the classroom, Jessie and Diana started their chat."That was a great idea, Diana!"she burst out,"We should do this every time we want to talk!" Diana realized Jessie was right. "Okay!"Diana said cheerfully. Just then they realized they were being followed."What are you two doing here? You're boys!"Jessie yelled at them."We go to the boys class,"one boy said."There's a boys' class?"Diana asked."Not for ballae, for acting,"
the other boy said."Yeah, we just wanted to take a break and do some sp-" One boy hit him before he could say the rest."Ow! What was that for?"the other boy asked."You know why!" the boy said. Diana and Jessie realized the boys were spying on them, so they ran away."You made them run away! Why'd you do that?"the boy said again. Before the could hear anymore, they got to far away."That was close!"Jessie said."Yeah,"Diana said,"Let's keep going."
